home size

People buy a home with mortgage they can afford to pay each month.

Normally, this is a home that's larger than needed.

Bad idea. Here are reasons.

Smaller home and mortgage provides money for emergency and retirement savings plus insurance.

Only if you live a perfect life, with no problems, can you justify a big home.

What size home is best?

I live in almost a perfect size home for a Comfortable Middle Class family.

It has 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, tiny kitchen, partial basement, family and living rooms. It has two car garage, 1/4 acre lot and sunroom. OK, sunroom is an unneeded luxury.

We use extra bedrooms for offices and guest bedroom.

My wife grew up in this home built in 1969 and bought it several years ago.

Modern version would have larger rooms, especially kitchen.

Our home has 2,045 square feet of space excluding garage and basement.

Home size of 1,800 square feet is best.
